Reality check...

I was checking out some of the blogs in my reading list earlier today, on another fine, overcast, but not rainy Sunday, and found the link to this little piece over at the Crow's Song. Hopefully it will make you think, perhaps make you cry, and it might even help you or someone you know... if you let it truly sink in. I wanted to write something more than this, but as the day progressed, me sitting here in the quiet cold alone, no words came.  Just read it.

At some point, I looked up and noticed that the sun was shining, so I went outside, pulled some weeds and turned over the compost pile. Shortly thereafter, someone made me smile and laugh. It's a start.

that was sobering.

Yes it was. The thing that bothers me is that the people who make others feel of less worth than they are don't realize that they are doing it... and will never understand the concept.

Interesting.

The blogger calls dishonesty 'perfection,' which gives the dishonest person topcover to continue in their dishonesty. Unhappy in marriage? Lie about it. Unhappy in self? It's someone else's responsibility. Can't stand to look in the mirror? Become a vampyre.

This blog post you refer to speaks to one's perception of the self being in conflict with the truth. Specifically, if one has a poor self-perception, but can recognise the truth. Better to leech the life-force through self-pity than to build up self application.

Still, truth is the ultimate acid and its etches upon the soul are finer than damascene steel.

An alternate title of "You Can't Handle the Truth" would have been... perfection.

Perhaps the concept is skewed to some and incomprehensible to others, on both sides of the spectrum. Be real... be honest... with oneself and with others. I have much to think and write about in regards to this. Whether I can do it remains to be seen.

Ah.. From your choice of alternate Title... perhaps you are a perpetrator of perfection. On a side note, my old VCR ate a few good men. Never recovered.

Marines will eat video tapes. Always go for the Paras instead.

Joshing aside, the dishonesty/perfection trap is just that: if one buys into it, one's soul is trapped and destroyed ever so slowly. Perfection is deception.

Conversely,if one buys into every event is the responsibility of the perceiver (an extreme of what I advocate), so too the soul becomes trapped because every event is the fault (somewhere in time and context) and is destroyed as one destroys a pineapple upside cake.

How then, do you propose to strike a balance? Or to find and take another path?

Not likely to meet either.

As for the rest, what best sums up my thoughts was written a few hundred years ago:

"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."

Yes... as you said, "perfection is deception"... and therein lies the disease, which you touched on in the rest of your comment.

I do have many more thoughts on this, and yes, I should organize those thoughts and write them down... Still not functioning at full capacity.

Have you considered yoga, or perhaps pranayama as you go about your day?

That, or going skeet shooting, can help organize the mind.

Just don't do either in a traffic intersection. Drives insurance rates up.

Ah... I do have to remember to breathe, but if I was any more meditative I would be dead.

Skeet shooting or something like this might help.
