Slightly meaty goodness...

Guilty... I am. Swanson's Turkey TV Dinner is just one of those things that affect me deeply. I don't know why. They must inject the slices of turkey product with some irresistible flavour drug that sends savory signals to my brain.  The other day they were on at four for $10, so I just couldn't not buy them. Normally I believe they are $4.99 or $5.99 each. Oddly enough, I sort of forgot that they were in the freezer for a couple days, but when I went in there this morning... there they were... Ooh... I thought... yummy... I could have one for lunch instead of dinner. I closed the freezer door for a moment... just for a moment, and thoughts flashed through my mind...the creamy mashed potatoes with gravy, the crunchy bits of the stuffing, that damned tasty turkey, I have to preheat the oven and it takes 40 minutes to cook, I should just turn the oven on now, I should just do it.... and so I did. I also thought ahead to the fact that it has been unseasonably cold here and turning the oven on would provide much desired warmth in the kitchen. It was a no brainer. It seemed to take forever for the oven to preheat and seemed to take longer for the thing to cook. Finally... it was done... I let it rest for a minute or two, stood at the stove with the door open to warm myself up and then dug in. Oh My God! It was good. All that salty, creamy, crunchy, slightly meaty goodness. At one point I actually had to tell myself to slow down.

Turkey TV dinners have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, guilty considering the meals that mom used to make. I'm still unsure as to why they called the slightly bigger ones "Hungryman" as they don't quite even satisfy a hungrywoman. Personally I think they should omit the dessert and add more mashed potatoes.

(I wrote this yesterday, but added to and edited it today.)

Oddly I have a major weakness for those babies myself...I particularly like the double or Hungry Man type servings, the XXL! I literally laughed out load when I read your thought that they must inject them with some irresistible flavor drug...I don't think there is any question about it, they must!

I cooked for mom today on the grill steak Shish-Kabob's for mom/dad and salmon for me since I still can't eat steak. After reading this post I feel cheated...i could have had a Swanson's TV Dinner, what a bummer!

Late night eating is one of my weaknesses and your recent posts are not helping!
I'm going to bed now with my mouth watering again.

I think people look down on the TV dinners as a lesser beast and judge them without appreciating the yummyness that IS definitely there.

Agh... steak... Now I'll be dreaming about steak, and baked potato...

Ah... yes... I think you must be eight hours ahead? Late night eating used to be a bad habit of mine, but not so much now. I just dream a lot about food as I'm drifting to or from sleep.

Spockgirl,

Have you considered therapy?

Fresh steak grilled with a spicy dry rub, mashed garlic potatoes with light seasoning, fresh salad and rolls, with a red wine?

:)

Considering I also have a thing for fishsticks, perhaps therapy is not such a bad idea. However, I loves me my steak too. I wrote a little bit about it HERE.

I admit, I have a turkey craving constantly. I always blamed it on that tripta-whatever in there (that they say causes the drowsiness after eating turkey) but it causes the craving as well. Tv dinners...eh. Not a big fan of, but admit, in their own way, the different brands have one portion of the meals that is always better than the other brand. Too bad we can't get the mashed potatoes from one, the dessert from another, etc etc.

I've heard of the drowsiness caused by something in the turkey, but never experienced it. As for cravings... for me it is beef and chicken. As for TV dinners... we only have Swanson's available and the turkey is just delicious.

Funny you mentioned baked potatoes because that is exactly I made with fresh tossed salad and veggies and home made bread. Of course with the recent stomach surgery I could only eat my salmon, green beans and some baked potato...

Ahh, I'm hungry really hungry again...
