The Halloween Spirit is dead?
This may be the first year ever that I am not doing anything at all for Halloween. I didn't even get a pumpkin to carve. Only a few years ago I did five or maybe even seven. I can't remember now. Last year I did one. This year? Nope. I didn't even open the Halloween trunk. No decorations in the house or on the front porch. Might be the first time ever that I don't don my usual sort of witch/undead outfit. I just wasn't feeling it. I might change my mind about dressing up though. You figure that if one feels dead inside, it would feed well the Halloween spirit. Doesn't quite work that way.

Aging and decaying...
"Twleve years ago my body started failing, five years ago my life fell apart and now my body is decaying and I look like a hag. Yay! Still, it IS better than it could be. How's your day?" (Excerpt from an email.)
Went to the dentist today. It all went well except that I need a procedure done that is going to cost almost $800, which I can't afford. One thing I could always rely on was the health of my teeth. Not any longer. It isn't a big deal in the big scheme of things, it's just a little bit disheartening. Actually, it isn't a big deal in the big scheme of things, but it IS a big deal in my life, such as it is, so today, it was rather depressing. Oh well...

Timing...
... is everything...
The sun came out for five minutes... I guess I arrived just in time, but darn it, I didn't have the camera anymore, just the cell phone. Still, even though it's blurry, I think I lucked out. I wasn't expecting the aureole.... or the rays of sunlight sneaking in.

Close enough...
I feel bad not being able to think even a half-formed thought or write anything remotely resembling the real writing of words. This has been going on for quite some time, which has been a concern. So, in lieu of what I can't seem to grasp nor find in my own head, I give you some oddly fitting reflections via Facebook.
(But without the holding hands and butterflies.)

Close enough.

The ties that bind...
Over ten years ago on the street where I used to live.
The tree is no longer there.
It was a beautiful tree.

Sometimes the answer is "Just because"...
Hmm... I didn't realize that a week had passed since I did this this or that post, to which I had ONE response. (Thanks DaveO!) Was having trouble choosing a couple tonight, but here goes:
1. Lasagne (Because of the added bonus of melted cheese.)
2. White Wine (Because it is easier to find a White Wine that tastes half decent than a red wine, plus... it includes Champagne.)
3. Burrito (Because you can buy them frozen and nuke them. Plus... refried beans and cheese.)
4. Tea (Because there are more options with tea, and it can be imbibed also without dairy if need be, whereas coffee just can't.)
5. Shepherd's Pie (Because it just IS better.)
6. Pizza (This was difficult, but you can cover all four food groups in Pizza.)
7. Noodles (Again, more options than with rice... and because... instant Ramen.)
8. Dried Apricots (Funny, I prefer Dried Apricots over fresh, but I prefer Grapes over Raisins.)
9. Doughnut (Cinnamon Sugar... need I say more? How about Chocolate covered, Glazed, Chocolate Sprinkles, Raspberry or Lemon filled...)
10. Mashed Potatoes (Just because)
11. Bread (Options, options... readily available... fast... butter, peanut butter, cheese, cold cuts... )
12. Oatmeal (Because it makes your tummy feel warm and cozy.)

A hankering...
Right now... 2AM... I have a hankering for ... pork sausages... And, the other day, it was flapjacks... pancakes... griddle cakes... those ones that mom used to make on the old cast iron pan or griddle... I don't know why I remember, but sometimes they'd come out really dark and sort of crisp on the outside... As time passed I became more enamoured of crepes and waffles, but man... I can almost taste those pancakes. Butter melting... syrup dripping ... peanut butter... Gahhhhhh! It's supposed to be bedtime!

A Fall Picnic...
Image from Country Style (Australia)
Hmm... a fall picnic... A little too cold, but still... I'm thinking... fresh French Bread with Butter, Homemade Peach Jam (I just received a jar the other day), Aged Cheddar, Boursin, Pepper Salami (Beer Sausage?), Apple Cider from the Okanagan and Earl Gray Tea, piping hot. And... maybe some Ginger Cookies... or... Oatmeal cookies... Did I miss anything? Sigh...
The last blush of Summer...
A few more pictures I took of the Peace Rose the day before the weather changed. I went to check yesterday and it looks to be that the five remaining buds might not even open, as the temperature is dropping quite low in the evening and the days since have been cold and wet with no sun in sight.

Eating... This or That?
Been a while since I've done this type of thing, and the readership has dropped, so I don't know if anyone who stops by will participate:
1. Spaghetti or Lasagne?
2. Red or White Wine?
3. Fajita or Burrito?
4. Tea or Coffee?
5. Shepherd's Pie or Meatloaf?
6. Pizza or Nachos?
7. Rice or Noodles?
8. Raisins or Dried Apricots?
9. Doughnut or Cupcake?
10. Mashed Potato or Baked?
11. Pasta or Bread?
12. Cereal or Oatmeal?
Ah... my brain just crapped out on me, so that's all I've got...

Cake or Pie?
I really thought I would be Cake...
You Are Pie |
Sometimes people don't appreciate you as much as they should. You are really quite special. You are deep, thoughtful, and get better with time. You are subtle but powerful. You are very traditional, and that's a good thing. You remind people of simpler and happier times. |
What the heck is EQ?
Well... here's mine...
Your EQ is 133 |
You are warm and open. Even when life gets you down, you're unafraid of the world and its challenges. You are comfortable with who you are. And you accept your weaknesses - as well as the weaknesses of others. While you are quite stable, you don't respond perfectly to every bad situation that comes up. But you have enough emotional intelligence to know when you need a course correction. |

Not as trivial as you might have thought...
You see it almost everywhere, both the original and its many incarnations, but there is history behind it.

A fond farewell...
Yesterday when I got home, the sun was just starting to disappear behind the mountains and I wanted to catch the fading light before it was too late. I'm glad I did. Today... it rained all day for the first time in about a month. Sigh. The sun... the warmth of summer have faded into fall. The cold and drear is here.
I just realized that it has been five days since I last posted anything. That may be the longest space since the very beginning of my journey here. The funny thing is ... I didn't even miss it. Honestly... I have no idea what I am doing here nor what I am going to do where I am. I'm just... cold.

My Wish For You...
I took this picture in the backyard the other day. I wrote this little wish last night. Today I was looking for a picture to go with the words and decided on this combination. I did it on an 8 x 10 page, so the words on this smaller version are rather blurry. I don't usually write stuff like this, so if you can't read it here (or click on the image to see if that is a bit better), I will have it posted in the comments.
(Update: I had tried several times to get the right colour for the words to show up and thought I had it, but I was looking at it again in a larger format and realized that there are parts that I can't see. Dammit.)
That moment when...
Makes you smile... but my heart hasn't stopped beating yet after watching this.
(Curtsy to the Borderline Sociopathic Blog for Boys.)
Clinging to summer again...
Today, being sunny, gorgeous and in the mid-20s, I wanted to get a few pictures of the fall garden with the borrowed camera. The hydrangeas have been fading out for a while, but there's still some colour left. I walked around the corner of the house and... was rather surprised...
I guess that once again, I haven't been spending much time outside, even though the summer we've been having has been extended, albeit however that it started late this year. Last time I was out there I cut back this rosebush and figured that would be it for this season.
Oh... and the lavender is pretty much finished now.
I was thinking of cutting the lawn today, hopefully for the last time this year, but I didn't do it. Maybe tomorrow. Hmm... darn it... It is Thanksgiving and I didn't pick up a Turkey TV dinner. Sigh.

Et tu Korn?
A stoned zombie with a hangover...hmm...
So very cold... even bundled up. Don't feel as bad today, however I have now developed a cough that sounds rather bronchial and feels as though my throat is being ripped out. I went for that walk Sunday night which didn't help the way I thought it would, and earlier this evening I went for another to get some fresh air and capture the sunset. Didn't go to the regularly scheduled sporting activity last night as I figured it would be rather difficult considering that it felt as though my head was in a different dimension than my body. Couldn't quite breathe properly which was cause for the ongoing headsqiush situation. All in all, I haven't been feeling that crappy, just something akin to a stoned zombie with a hangover. And... again, that is without the benefit of alcohol, drugs OR medication. Nice. Stomach has been loudly protesting something as well, but I'm pretty much used to that. Oh... but I got tonnes of pictures from the walk. No squirrels or bears however.
More to follow at some point, but I should probably settle my stomach and maybe try to breathe sleep. And yay! I'm hungry, but shouldn't eat anything at this hour.
Mr. Sandman don't bring me a dream... sleep will do just fine.

To the moon
Went for a rather long walk this evening, trying to capture the moon. I had to stop a few times because I couldn't see the path before me. At least this time I didn't get disoriented and lose my way completely in the dark, or fall over and rip open my knee.
Anyways... I still haven't been able to get a good shot.
So tonight sitting here thinking about the moon, this song came to mind, which was then followed by this, from the Mancini songbook and Breakfast at Tiffany's. (George looked damn fine in that movie.) Sigh.
(Oh... my head is still stuffed and I should be sleeping. I thought maybe that walk earlier might help clear things up, in more ways than one, and perhaps help induce sleep, however... not quite working. It is now 3:44... Something just feels "off".)
