I really should paint these stairs....but they have such a wonderful patina after 8 years.
They sort of look like how I feel.

Yeah, but those are good steps. They have been there, ya know? Seen some things. You know they aren't going to fall apart any time soon.
You can still dress them up. Throw a art deco-y thing or two, and no one will notice the wear. Infuse whatever allegory you want.
